Friday, July 22, 2016 Prosecutor: natural gas rates cap not enoughA La Plata prosecutor yesterday asked for the courts to suspend the 400-percent cap recently introduced by the Macri administration on natural gas price increases nationwide, on the basis that no public hearings were carried out before the measure was implemented. A group of activist organizations carried out a protest in Neuquén city centre in order to show their opposition to the increase on natural gas rates. They marched to the headquarters of Camuzzi, a natural gas distributor, and delivered a document explaining their rejection to the measure. “If the previous measures by the government were considered void because of not having conducted out a public hearings, the same criteria has to be applied on the cap on natural gas rates,” prosecutor Ana Miriam Russo said yesterday. Meanwhile, the government told utility customers who received natural gas bills with increases surpassing the 400-percent mark not to pay them and instead wait for re-billing.
