Proposed Formula One auto races in Miami and Silicon Valley are facing opposition from groups which have placed a full-page advertisement in a local newspaper and started a petition to put the brakes on the plans. Under the headline ‘Say No To Formula One Closing Miami Streets’ the advertisement claimed that “elected officials and their corporate fat cat friends want to turn our taxpayer-funded streets into a race track. Closing city streets - streets that are for our use. It is a far cry from the glitz and glamour of Miami which has never even hosted an F1 race before. Elsewhere in the US, plans to host a Grand Prix near to Silicon Valley have also run into opposition.
