The new law will muzzle press freedom “just like it was during the BAKSAL rule”, senior BNP leader Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said at a discussion on Tuesday. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has termed it as a ‘draconian law’. “No such thing as freedom of speech and the media will exist if this law is passed. Journalists will be targeted just like it happened with Section 57,” Rizvi said on Tuesday. Speaking at a media briefing at the BNP headquarters, Rizvi said that the new law ‘criminalises’ freedom of speech.
