Proposal for direct flights to Southeast Asia

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is thinking of the possibility of opening a window to Southeast Asia from the Malabar region via the Calicut International Airport. Already proposals have been sent to the airlines companies such as Air Asia, Malindo Air and Malaysia Airlines to operate at least one non-stop direct flight to Kuala Lumpur. Hopefully, the proposals would be fruitful shortly,” K. Srinivasa Rao, Airport Director, told The Hindu on Wednesday. Besides, steps were being taken to allow Scoot, the Singaporean low-cost airline owned by Singapore Airlines, to operate from the Calicut airport. And Saudia (Saudi Arabian airlines), which had secured the NOC in December to operate wide-bodied aircraft, will conduct the Haj service from the Calicut airport from July 7.
