Progressive Conservative leadership race: Blaine Higgs wins on 3rd ballot


Blaine Higgs, the plain-spoken former finance minister, won the Progressive Conservative leadership on Saturday, defeating six other candidates in a three-ballot race. It did not take long once the second ballot results were announced to see movement to the final two contenders. (Jacques Poitras/CBC)On the first ballot, Higgs had 1,228 votes, followed by Norton's 1,078 votes, Barley's 948 votes and Allen's 892 votes. It is unclear how many of Stewart's supporters will be following him over to Barley's camp on the second ballot. Only 2 candidates on 3rd ballotFormer finance minister Blaine Higgs, left, and former Saint John mayor Mel Norton will be on the third ballot in the Progressive Conservative leadership race.
