Programs Like "Girls I Rate" In The U.K. Empower Young Female Artists

Girls I Rate was founded to bolster a very specific philosophy — when women support each other, incredible things happen. The non-profit organization, founded by Carla Marie Williams, seeks to address the disparity in female representation in creative industries. The USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative analyzed popular songs released between 2012 and 2017 — and discovered that only 22% of the songs were produced by female artists. She works with Girls I Rate as well as forming her own empowerment brand, It's Never Simple. Lawes has produced work with artists like Imogen Heap and Little Mix, and brings her technical proficiency and her business acumen to Girls I Rate.
