Under the Electoral Act 2022, political parties could nominate candidates through direct primaries involving all registered members, indirect primaries conducted by delegates, or consensus arrangements reached by party leaders. The commission fixed Saturday, January 16, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, as opposed to its previous schedule, which slated the presidential and National Assembly polls for February 20, 2027, with governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for March 6, 2027.
