As hundreds of thousands of protesters flooded the streets of Caracas, Venezuela to demonstrate in favor of a recall referendum to oust President Nicolás Maduro were echoed today, on a much smaller scale, outside the Venezuelan Embassy in Buenos Aires. Those supporting the referendum were blocked from reaching the embassy gates by Maduro supporters. “[Kirchnerite social leader] Luis D’Elia’s people took over the entrance of the Embassy and wouldn’t let us through. They threw cones and flags at us, they even tried to beat us up,” one Venezuelan told La Nación.
