NewsSupreme Court Judge Priyasad Dep has taken oaths as the 45th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka before President Maithripala Sirisena this morning. He replaces Justice K. Sripavan, who retired on Tuesday. Under the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, the CJ is appointed by the President after nomination by the the Constitutional Council (CC) Chaired by the Speaker.
