On Tuesday, three private TV stations were switched off on flimsy grounds. The cowardly and autocratic act erodes the gains made in developing a free and responsible media industry. Media freedom is granted by the Constitution and should be guarded jealously. * * *It is disheartening for the government to disconnect TV stations just because some people wanted to ‘swear in’ their leaders. * * *After 55 years of independence, the government should be ensuring press freedom, not switching off TVs to pave the way for social media fake news.
