Private airlines revokes flying ban on Gaikwad

Mumbai, April 8 (PTI): India’s private airlines on Saturday revoked the flying ban they had imposed on Shiv Sena lawmaker Ravindra Gaikwad on March 24 after he had assaulted an Air India manager. Jet Airways, SpiceJet, GoAir and IndiGo, members of the Federation of Indian Airlines, took their decision a day after Air India lifted its flying ban. The civil aviation ministry had asked Air India as well as other airlines to lift on Friday the ban imposed on Gaikwad, citing the “regret” letter Gaikwad sent to civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on April 6. Gaikwad, who represents Osmanabad in Maharashtra, had told the Lok Sabha on Friday that he owed no apology to Air India or its employees, instead accusing the AI staff for insulting him. A “national no-fly list” is being drafted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in consultation with the aviation ministry that will bar unruly passengers and those suspected of terror links.
