But Ms Patel defended the response of ministers to the virus, telling BBC Radio 4's Today: "The Government has consistently throughout this year been ahead of the curve in terms of proactive measures with regards to coronavirus." She added: "There's nothing last-minute in terms of the work that was undertaken by government in terms of planning and preparing for tier 4. And rather than accept the criticism, the Prime Minister last night made another promise - that there would be a 'different world' by Easter. I think that’s the right thing to do.”He went on to promise a brighter future, this time by Easter. “And I think that’s the right thing to say then and now.”
