Liz Truss must “get a grip” of the thousands of prisoners overstaying their sentences and tackle rising violence in jails, the chief inspector has demanded. Peter Clarke said prison violence was “rising seriously”, fuelled by staffing shortages, poor conditions and widespread drug use.
