Prisons Dept studying use of AI to strengthen security - Nation

KAJANG (Bernama): The Malaysian Prisons Department is studying the use of an artificial intelligence (AI) system to strengthen the prison security system. The AI is a system that is capable of thinking for itself through machine learning and was created to enable computers to perform some tasks better than humans. However, Prisons director-general Datuk Seri Zulkifli Omar said the matter was still being studied. He added that the matter was discussed at the "Intelligence Smart Prison" forum with seven countries that had already implemented the AI system, including Japan, Canada and Singapore. “The main objective of the forum is to gain exposure to the prison management system in developed countries and share the success stories of more developed prison systems in those countries, including the AI,” he said in his speech at the launch of the forum at the Malaysian Prisons Department Headquarters here Monday (April 22).
