BOGOTÁ, Colombia—Inmates launched coordinated nationwide riots over what they said was the government’s failure to address fears of the spread of the coronavirus in prison. Nearly two-dozen inmates were dead and 83 injured in one of Colombia’s most notorious jails, the Justice Ministry said. Footage taken by inmates and posted on social media and in the Colombian press on Saturday night showed inmates roaming free inside prisons and small blazes after prisoners set fire to mattresses. Gunfire could be heard in the background.
