As reform and rehabilitation of prisoners get more push, correctional activities in the State are becoming innovative to aid re-entry of prisoners into the community. The idea of a cricket match between jail officials of Kerala and that of Sri Lanka was mooted by the Sri Lankan side. In Thiruvananthapuram, selection of prisoners from Central Prison and the open jail was held at St. Xavier’s College grounds, Thumba. Selection of officials was held on a Statewide basis, and 60 prisoners and officials were shortlisted. A team of 20 — seven prisoners and 13 officials — was selected, and at least five prisoners will play in the match.
