"After a week of getting to know each other, they continued chatting on WhatsApp," he said.Stanley said the man told the victim that he would be sending her US$100,000 jewellery and a handphone.On Dec 29, she received a call from a "Customs officer" who informed her that the items had arrived and she was asked to pay RM2,500 as a clearance fee.Two days later at 9.15pm, she deposited the amount into an account number provided by the Customs officer.ACP Stanley said the victim realised that she had been cheated when she was further requested to remit more money.She lodged a police report on Jan 3.The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
