Principal axed after child deaths

State health minister Siddharth Nath Singh announced Mishra's suspension in Gorakhpur but insisted lack of oxygen did not kill the children as the hospital had made alternative arrangements. District magistrate Rajiv Rautela had yesterday mentioned that the hospital had with police help managed to gather a number of oxygen cylinders on Thursday night. Media reports have quoted the parents of several of the dead children as alleging that the police had "terrorised" them on Wednesday night. Mrityunjay Singh of Padrauna, father of a newborn who died, said: "Hospital staff pushed us out of the neonatal ward on Wednesday evening. Amit Singh of Deoria said: "The doctors killed my daughter Pratigya, and the police forced me out of the premises."
