The late Princess Diana’s signature oversized lace collar is feeling the fashion love again, and New York style writer Kathryn Neale couldn’t be more happy about it. As a child growing up in New Zealand in the 1980s, Lady Diana Spencer, and then Princess Diana, was the epitome of glamour. When I revisit that scrapbook in my memory, the thing that stands out are Diana’s oversized white collars. But, for me, the ultimate collar moment was the Gina Frattini​ black velvet dress with a white lace collar that Diana wore at the National Film Theatre in 1981. These days a lace collar is more likely to be worn by a heavily-pierced bartender at a dive bar in the Lower East Side.
