The Bangladesh Primary Assistant Teachers’ Alliance threatened they would go for a tougher movement if the authorities fail to meet their demand by December 15. Leaders of the teachers’ association urged the Primary and Mass Education Ministry to send a new proposal for upgrading the status of assistant teachers to grade 11 immediately. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education proposed to upgrade their salary structure to grade 10 for headmasters and grade 12 for assistant teachers. There are 65,902 primary schools in Bangladesh, which employ 3,25,000 assistant teachers and 42,000 headmasters. The press conference was attended, among others, by the Bangladesh Primary Assistant Teachers’ Association members Aminul Haque, Enamul Haque, Ekhlasur Rahman, and Abdul Ohab Sheikh.
