The price of maize flour could soon shoot up due to unsteady supply by the government, millers have warned. Earlier this month, the government stepped in to subsidize maize flour amid sharp criticism on the legalities of importing maize from Mexico. "Lack of steady supply could see the prices of unga rise to Sh135 per 2kg packet of flour," he said. Joshua Chepkwony of Jamii Maize Millers, asked MPs to put a law in place to ensure maize farmers get long term government subsidies. The millers insisted that steady supply Sh90 a packet maize flour is hinged on the arrival of 445,000 bags of cheap Mexican grains.
