PrettyLittleThing’s Umar Kamani taps into new fashion trends

Kamani says Ireland is a key market for PrettyLittleThing: ‘It was doing good numbers from early on, even against the UK’ BRYAN MEADE/SUNDAY TIMESWhen Umar Kamani was younger, he would often come to Dublin with his father to visit old friends, the Bari family, who owned the Japan and Angel fashion businesses and the local franchise for Häagen-Dazs cafes. They would stay in the Westbury hotel and wander down Grafton Street to the Brown Thomas department store. “I swear on my life, at that point we didn’t have a lot of money,” says Kamani, the 31-year-old co-founder and chief executive of PrettyLittleThing, a fast-growing online womenswear retailer. “Coming to Dublin was the best thing.”Times have changed a bit. Kamani has flown in to Dublin by private jet this time for a party for 300 customers and fans of PrettyLittleThing at Krystle nightclub.
