OTTAWA—Pressure is mounting on disgraced Sen. Don Meredith to resign from the Senate in the wake of a damning ethics report that concluded he broke rules when he had a sexual relationship with a teenage girl. Sen. Peter Harder, the government representative in the Senate, wrote Meredith Friday urging him to “exhibit judgment” and give up his Senate seat. “More specifically, I urge you to do the honourable thing and resign from your seat in the Senate,” he wrote. Harder wasn’t alone in his call. Conservative Sen. David Wells called Meredith’s behaviour “disgusting” and that he should never again enter the senate chamber.
