Press Metal gains from aluminium supply crunch amid Gulf tensions

KUALA LUMPUR: Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd is expected to benefit from tightening global aluminium supply, as geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region disrupt production and shipments. The firm said the ongoing conflict in the Gulf has constrained aluminium flows, as a significant portion of global supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz, creating supply bottlenecks. RHB Research said the supply constraints are likely to keep aluminium prices elevated, with spot prices rising about 10 per cent over two weeks to between US$3,400 and US$3,500 per tonne. However, RHB Research cautioned that prolonged geopolitical tensions could also dampen demand due to higher energy costs, potentially capping further price gains. It added that the group's low-cost production model and exposure to aluminium price movements position it well to benefit from the current market dynamics.
