NewsPresident Maithripala Sirisena today expressed his deepest condolences over the Katukurunda boat tragedy that took place in the sea area off Katukurunda, Kalutara yesterday, a statement from Presidential Secretariat said. As soon as he came to know about the accident, President Sirisena advised relevant authorities, including Sri Lanka Navy and Police to take prompt and adequate measures to save lives of passengers on the boat. "While expressing his deepest sympathies and condolences to the family members of the deceased, President also wished speedy recovery to the people receiving medical treatment." At least eleven persons died in the boat accident leaving five others admitted to hospital with severe injuries. Authorities engaged in search operations to find a person who went missing in the accident.
