Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, said the meeting focused on the latest in the Israeli military escalation in the Palestinian Territories. President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts in this context, in addition to its role in the reception of wounded Palestinians and the evacuation of foreign nationals. For her part, the President of the European Commission offered an overview of her assessment of the developments in Gaza. Mrs. von der Leyen agreed with this and stressed the European position of rejecting the displacement of the Palestinians. The meeting also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation relations between Egypt and the European Union, given the firm and close bonds the two sides share.
