President William Ruto has mourned the late Mukami Kimathi, wife to freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi. The head of state said Mama Mukami Kimathi courageously withstood the brutality of colonial oppression and proudly wore the scars of the battle. "On my own and my family's behalf and on behalf of the people of Kenya, I convey a message of condolence to the family of our departed heroine, Mukami Kimathi." Ruto described Mama Mukami as a steadfast patriot and well-known champion for national unity who inspired many Kenyans of all ages to cherish our country and stand ready to defend our values. Mukami Kimathi died aged 96 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi after developing breathing difficulties.
