President Md Abdul Hamid paid tribute to ‘Shikha Anirban’ or eternal flame at Dhaka Cantonment on Monday morning. The President, who is commander-in-chief of the armed forces, observed a minute’s silence in honour of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh’s liberation. He was followed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who holds the defence ministry. Both were greeted by the heads of army, air force and navy and the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division. “Our Armed Forces have brightened our image before the world with their performance as UN peacekeepers,” she said.
