Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid on Saturday called upon the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member countries to act “right now” to ensure the rights of the Rohingya people. The president urged the OIC while addressing a cultural program and state dinner in honour of the OIC foreign ministers who are attending the 45th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Bangladesh. Around a million of them have flocked to Bangladesh to escape the persecution in Myanmar. He called the latest episode of violence from August 2017 as a sharp escalation of long-running, state-led persecution and attacks on the Rohingya population. He noted that the motto of “Solidarity in Action” adopted in 2005 needs to be reinvigorated to bring peace and development in the Muslim world to deter conflict and Islamophobia.
