Mr Özil, 30, married Amine Gulse, 26, a former Miss Turkey, in a glittering Bosphorus-side ceremony in Istanbul attended by Mr Erdogan and his wife, Emine. Turkey’s first couple posed beside the newlyweds for photographs which were later distributed by the presidency and stayed at the ceremony for about an hour, according to Turkish news reports. The wedding was officiated by Ali Yerlikaya, the centrally appointed governor of Istanbul who has been installed as caretaker mayor of the city until local elections are re-run on June 23.
