President Duterte congratulates Olympics silver-medalist Hidilyn DiazPresident Duterte has joined a proud and jubilant nation in congratulating Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz for winning the elusive silver medal in the Rio Olympics. “The Philippines and the President is honoured and proud of Hidilyn Diaz’s Silver Medal win at the Rio Olympics,” Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said in a statement. Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Martin Andanar also extended his greetings to Diaz “on behalf of a proud nation”. “The inspiring story of Diaz is the story of Filipinos,” Andanar said in a separate statement. Diaz won the country’s first Olympic medal for 20 years.
