Buhari left Nigeria on January 20, 2017, and was meant to return on February 6, but extended his holiday based on “doctors’ recommendations for further tests and rest,” according to the Nigerian Presidency’s Twitter account. Since then, his health has been the main subject of discussion in Nigeria and among international media. In his absence, Yemi Osinbajo, whose acting president was once called into question and found himself in the middle of a political power tussle, has handled the reins well, steering Nigeria in what many consider a good direction.
