Pre-Sales For 'Rogue One' Crash Fandango's Site -- And Disney Benefits From It

If you’re suffering blockbuster marketing fatigue and feel as if the hype cycle never ends, that’s because it doesn’t. The upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the latest example of this, with pre-sale ticket demand being so high that it crashed Fandango’s site early Monday morning. It won’t hit The Force Awakens‘ record-breaking $248 million opening weekend, but if it does hit the more optimistic figures, it would still be the second-highest December opening of all time. While the exact figures from pre-sales won’t be released for some time, we could reasonably expect Rogue One to do at least a third of The Force Awakens‘ again record-breaking $100 million in pre-sales last year. While one shouldn’t put too much stock in the site crashing, it’s a solid indicator that, like Iger said, the interest is there for Rogue One, and interest almost always translates to solid box office returns.
