Power outage impacts township's drinking water

Photo: Getty ImagesThe drinking water in a Canterbury town has been deemed not safe after a power outage hit its treatment system. A mains outage caused the Arthur's Pass water treatment systems to stop operating and a boil water notice has been put in place. A Selwyn District Council spokesman said while no e.coli has been detected in the Arthur's Pass water supply, it cannot guarantee the water is safe to drink. "Residents should continue to boil water until notified the boil water notice is lifted," he said. Updates on the boil water notice can be found here.
