Power out, traffic disrupted as wind hits

Power is out to some consumers and traffic was disrupted for some time after in Dunedin after issues with cables in windy conditions this morning. Traffic flow was disrupted for some time after a fibre optic cable came down on to May St, in Concord, shortly after 10am. In a separate incident, a downed power line cut power to consumers in Green Island, Abbotsford, Saddle Hill and Fairfield. As of just after 10.20am the MetService said there were moderate winds in Dunedin with gusts of up to 41kmh. A severe weather watch for strong winds had been in place for Dunedin, but was lifted this morning.
