Having risen yesterday afternoon amid reports that Theresa May will signal a “soft” exit from the European Union in her landmark speech in Florence today the pound has traded flat overnight in Asia. At 7.13am it was at $1.359 against the dollar, up 0.09 per cent, less than a cent away from its highest level since the result of the June 2016 Brexit referendum. Against the euro the pound was trading at €1.135, down 0.14 per cent.
