Take the government’s recent decision to freeze the toll hike for several highways this year. But I remember when the government allowed Besraya to hike the toll for its highway from RM1.30 to RM2 in 2015. And Besraya was just one of the highway concessionaires given the nod to hike toll rates at that time. Several other highway operators also raised toll prices at the same time, pushing up transportation costs. After the experience, I have since been very mindful of toll hike announcements like the one made by Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof on April 30.
