Postmedia Network Inc. has created a digital ad registry for political advertising that is compliant with recent changes to the Canada Elections Act, the company announced Thursday. Postmedia’s new digital advertising registry meets the requirements of Bill C-76, the Elections Modernization Act, which aims in part to prevent foreign interference in the election process and increase transparency around digital political advertising. Many digital companies such as Google and Microsoft have announced that they will not accept political advertising because of regulatory changes. All ads appearing Postmedia newspapers and online will be clearly labeled “Political Advertising.” All digital ads will be posted on the registry and include the authorizing agent, registered agent and the date and properties the ad appeared on. Postmedia’s digital ad registry launches June 30.
