According to a statement from Postmates SVP of Operations Russell Cook, the delivery startup has "redefined the roles of our local teams and operations" and will "phase out our community manager position." A source close to the company told Forbes that the total number of employees laid off is less than 30, but did not dispute that the community manager position has been eliminated. Postmates used to have managers on the ground in each market where it operates (now 44), but has been moving more operations to a central support center. "We are thankful to our community managers for all their hard work, and we’re confident that such engaging and adaptable individuals will be successful in their future endeavors." Earlier this month, Postmates CEO Bastian Lehmann told Forbes that profitability was a goal that the company should hit by December 2017 or early 2018.
