A presidential election is like a perverse form of tantric sex. The gratification is agonisingly delayed, and polling numbers ain’t exactly erotic. But the extraordinarily long wait is nearly over: Washington DC is holding its breath for just a few more hours. It has been so beautiful in America’s capital this week, as though the heavens are mocking our worldly concerns. Indeed, there is probably no better weather on Earth than the northeast of America in autumn: bright sun, auburn leaves, crisp bluebird days, followed by long sleepless nights.
