Thus, energy policy targets and clean technologies penetration into energy systems will need to be promoted by Asean leaders. Investments into low-carbon technologies and renewables are key to managing the energy transition towards cleaner use of energy and addressing emissions. Realising high penetration of renewables in the power sector requires a huge investment in power system integration through the Internet of Things (IoT). Coordinated power system integration through IoT is known as a "smart grid system". As the European Union has achieved a high penetration of renewables using the smart grid system, Asean may have much to learn from Europe.
