The entire post office network will collapse from the middle of next year without urgent state support, a major new report has warned. It said this was due to the impact of Covid-19 and the uncertainty of post offices handling welfare payments in future. "The Irish post office network is at a critical juncture," it said. Many local post offices, large and small, urban and rural, will likely be forced to close if the financial conditions under which they operate do not change in the short term." Mr Martin said post offices are among the safest environments for virus transmission as customers are only there for a few minutes.
