MetService is warning of possible heavy rain, thunderstorms, gales and even tornados on Tuesday, for many parts of the country. The front would bring a period of heavy rain and strong northerly winds to many areas. MetService has also issued a heavy rain warning and several heavy rain and wind watches. AIMAN AMERUL MUNER/Stuff Stong waves and heavy rain on Saturday along Caroline Bay in Timaru. Other areas with a chance of heavy rain are Northland, the central North Island high country, north Taranaki, and the ranges of Westland south of Otira and Fiordland north of Doubtful Sound.
