Division four teams make up a quarter of all intercounty sides and yet continually have to fight against the sense that they are irrelevant. It is the A team players that you tend to put your focus on to try and get that success. Making it to the senior intercounty grade, they have reached the highest level they can go within the county system. If you are playing for Dublin footballers then having no chance of success does not come into the equation. If intercounty players are to achieve tangible success they need competitions in which they can realistically aspire to win.
