Figures published yesterday showed that Portugal has edged close to the UK government threshold for quarantine a week after British holidaymakers were given permission to visit the country again. It was confirmed today that Portugal had recorded 19.4 cases per 100,000 people over the previous seven days, a rise from 16.4 on Friday. The UK said quarantine would be introduced on arrivals from countries where the rate is above 20 per 100,000. Paul Charles, founder of the PC Agency, the travel consultant, said that the rise put Portugal on the “brink of the red zone for quarantine” by this Saturday
