The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a distant warning signal No.1 for maritime ports in the country after a depression in the Bay of Bengal turned into a low pressure area. The maximum sustained wind speeds near the centre of the weather system were recorded at 40 kph, rising to 50 kph in gusts or squalls. The low pressure area might continue moving west-northwest, potentially intensifying through a deep depression phase and possibly evolving into a cyclone, according to the weather office. ESCAP, a regional cyclone agency under the World Meteorological Organization, assigns names to cyclones in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the current low pressure system is expected to escalate into a deep depression by Tuesday and could develop into a cyclone by Wednesday.
