Porriua City Council has decided to rent out these properties it bought to settle a leaky homes claim. Porirua City Council will rent out 24 units it was forced to buy for millions in a leaky homes settlement. The two and three-bedroom units were bought from the owners by the council in 2019 following a Weathertight Homes Resolution Service assessment. Porirua mayor Anita Baker said the council “couldn’t just sit on the apartments, leaving them empty”. Dominion-Post Porirua mayor Anita Baker says the apartments do not require substantial work to bring up to standard for renting.
