Pope Francis taps Cardinal Tagle to speak at first Vatican summit on sex abuse


LifeSiteNews said that Tagle, along with Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago, Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Germany, will be resource speakers at the episcopal conference titled, “The Protection of Minors in the Church” which will be from Thursday to Sunday in a bid to create a global awareness and create a plan of action to fight abuse of minors within the Catholic Church. Tagle, who is also the president of Caritas Internationalis will tackle “Smell of the sheep. Knowing their pain and healing their wounds is at the heart of the shepherd’s task,” a post from the site said.Pope Francis gathered about 100 heads of bishops around the world to discuss the sex abuse scandals involving the clergy. The summit comes after the Pope ousted former US cardinal Theodore McCarrick who was accused of sexually assaultinng a teenager some 50 years ago. Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, is in Rome for the convention.
