Waikato Hospital contracts out security to Allied Security, and has done for six years (file photo). Do three unit standards prepare security guards to face down an agitated person wielding an oxygen cylinder? That's the sort of uncomfortable question the battering of a Waikato Hospital security guard has raised about whether guards at the country's hospitals are adequately trained for high-risk situations. "They're just not equipping the security guards properly ... especially around mental health," the source said.
