Poor hygiene at partitioned flats, union says

Over 60 percent of residents of partitioned flats said there were nasty smells coming from the opening of sewage drainage, says a study. Concerning Grassroots' Housing Rights Alliance interviewed 171 citizens living in inadequate housing, including cage homes, cubicle apartments, and rooftop housing between December 11 and 17 on their housing environment and maintenance. Researchers said that due to the lack of proper division of sewage outlets in subdivided flats, it may pose potential virus transmission risk. Over 70 percent of interviewees reported they are dealing with poor hygiene conditions at their homes, with 57.9 percent of them were dealing with water seepage and 44.4 percent dealing with spalling concrete and exposed rusty steel bars. They also recommended the authorities to allocate more resources from the anti-epidemic fund, to assist partitioned flat residents to combat the ongoing epidemic.
